Carfax, MIS Extend Carbon Offset Program for ‘Show Me The Carfax’ Race Weekend

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

crwe-newswire

BROOKLYN, Mich., Aug. 14 (CRWENEWSWIRE) — LiveLiveLive update on the CARFAX 250 Nationwide Series race - with 14 laps to go, it is a duel between race leader Carl Edwards and Brad Keselowski!!

Carfax and Michigan International Speedway are teaming up for the second straight year to help neutralize the carbon dioxide emissions resulting from travel, energy and auto use during this weekend’s ‘Show Me the CARFAX’ Race Weekend at MIS.

This precedent-setting initiative is the result of a partnership between Carfax, MIS and The Conservation Fund to help curb climate change and restore habitat for wildlife.

Carfax and MIS are working with The Conservation Fund’s Go Zero® program to zero out the CO2 emissions that result from the facility’s energy use during the race weekend and fuel used by fans traveling to and from the festivities. The effort will also cover the emissions from the race cars during both NASCAR events at MIS — the CARFAX 400 Sprint Cup Series race on Sunday and CARFAX 250 Nationwide Series race on Saturday, and qualifying and practice sessions on Friday and Saturday.

“This is a great step toward curbing the effects of climate change, and at the same time, doing something positive for the environment,” said Larry Gamache, communications director at Carfax. “There are many simple ways to make a difference — it’s so easy to get started. We’re fortunate to have active partners like MIS and The Conservation Fund help us carry out this effort for the ‘Show Me the CARFAX’ Race Weekend and do something good for the planet.”

Nearly 4,000 trees will be planted at Lake Ophelia National Wildlife Refuge in east central Louisiana as part of Carfax and Michigan International Speedway’s efforts. In addition to cleaning the air, the trees will provide shelter for wildlife and create new areas for public recreation, including hunting and wildlife viewing.

This marks the fourth straight year Carfax and MIS have neutralized the activities of its NASCAR programs at MIS. The company’s past efforts included the 2007 and 2008 CARFAX 250 races, and the emissions from a Sprint Cup car it sponsored in Michigan in 2008. The companies focused efforts on the entire weekend in 2009, an industry-leading initiative.

“Carfax has our shared concern for environmental issues and that’s exactly what makes ours a perfect partnership,” Michigan International Speedway President Roger Curtis said. “At MIS, our efforts continue to focus on reducing the immediate impacts from our operations and events through broad-based recycling efforts, partnerships with local governments and agencies to identify more efficient means of operation, pursuing renewable power sources and through conservation efforts. Our efforts make a meaningful connection to our fans who all love and appreciate the outdoors and truly think of MIS as ‘NASCAR in a national park.’”

Carfax, MIS and The Conservation Fund received a Communitas Award for their ongoing efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of the ‘Show Me the CARFAX’ Race Weekend. The Communitas Awards is an international effort to recognize exceptional businesses, organizations and individuals dedicated to corporate social responsibility and community service.

MIS is committed to environmental management practices which will provide a healthy and sustainable environment and enhance the lives of its guests and employees. MIS was the first sports facility in Michigan to join the Michigan Business Pollution Prevention Partnership (MBP3). It is a member of the federal program, EPA WasteWise, with recycling programs totaling more than 2 million tons in 2009 alone. MIS is also pioneering utility reduction programs, wetland remediation and restoration programs, and alternative energy programs. The racetrack also installed solar panels on its pit road suites and media center building, which opened in June.

The speedway has teamed up with Coca-Cola Recycling for the past three years, creating a successful beverage container recycling program. During the June race, 4,219 pounds of glass, plastic and aluminum were recycled, a 50 percent increase over 2009.

eLayaway, Inc. Announces the Appointment of Spokesman Marcus Allen, Legendary Athlete and Member of the NFL Hall of Fame

Monday, August 9th, 2010

crwe-newswire

TALLAHASSEE, Fla., Aug. 9, 2010 (CRWENEWSWIRE) — eLayaway, Inc. (OTCBB:ELAY), the Internet’s first and only patent pending layaway payment processor, is pleased to announce today the appointment of NFL legend Marcus Allen, as the Company’s spokesperson. In his new role as a high-profile representative of the Company, and with his personal experience and belief in the attributes of the eLayaway(R) service, Marcus Allen will widely promote the eLayaway(R) brand among merchants and consumers; help create and launch the Company’s consumer financial literacy initiative; and work to educate and encourage consumers on the benefits of “smart buying” in these tough economic times. During his distinguished football career, Marcus Allen played for the Los Angeles Raiders and the Kansas City Chiefs. He is both a Super Bowl champion, MVP and winner of the coveted Heisman Trophy award. Details of this new relationship are discussed below.

Specifically, beginning immediately, as spokesperson for eLayaway(R), Mr. Allen will work with the Company to promote both the eLayaway(R) service offering and a common commitment to fiscal responsibility and enabling “smart,” effective payment choices for consumers, which is particularly important during these challenging economic times. As a highly visible and well respected public figure, the Company believes Mr. Allen’s presence in promoting the brand will help capture mindshare and bring further recognition to the eLayaway(R) prepayment option among a broader consumer audience, building eLayaway(R) into a mainstream brand that customers ask for by name. He will also serve as a high profile figurehead in the Company’s Consumer Financial Literacy Initiative, scheduled to launch later this year. As part of this program’s development process, Mr. Allen will work with the Company on its strategy to create an informative and practical set of initiatives designed to help budget-conscious consumers better understand and manage their financial situations, including education about lowering debt, judiciously using credit and how to best take advantage of financially sound buying practices such as that offered by eLayaway(R).

Mr. Allen is very familiar with the eLayaway(R) payment option, having served as spokesman since February for eLayawaySPORTS(TM), the Company’s wholly-owned division and brand where sports fans can purchase season tickets and other sports related items on layaway. As spokesman for eLayawaySPORTS(TM), Marcus Allen represented eLayaway, Inc. in the 2010 National Sports Forum held in Baltimore, MD where his attendance brought recognition to eLayawaySPORTS(TM) as an alternative ticket payment system for various venues (i.e. professional and college teams), aiding further introductions of the eLayaway(R) payment option to new, enthusiastic users and facilitating and generating sales for eLayaway, Inc. and the respective sports teams and merchants that use the eLayaway(R) payment system.

According to Marcus, “The eLayaway(R) prepayment option has allowed countless sports fans to buy the tickets and merchandise they want without increasing their debt or having to say “no” to attending a game just because they cannot afford it at that moment.” Allen continued, “I’ve seen how eLayawaySPORTS(TM) is facilitating the relationship eager fans have with the sports teams they follow by enabling them to participate in games and other events with access to tickets and other items. If eLayaway(R) can transform and ease the commerce side of sports, it can work anywhere for anyone to promote sales and fiscal responsibility, making everyone happy.”

“Mr. Allen is well known among sports circles in particular and widely respected by many people in general as a highly successful ‘role model’ athlete,” commented Sergio A. Pinon, Chief Marketing Officer of eLayaway. “We are absolutely thrilled to expand our existing relationship with Marcus to company-wide spokesman beyond his current role for eLayawaySPORTS(TM). His credibility with audiences and personal belief in our services make him an ideal and powerful choice for teaming with eLayaway. It is an honor to work with Marcus Allen.”

How eLayaway Works for Consumers

eLayaway(R) is an online payment system that allows consumers to pay for the products and services they desire using manageable periodic payments, thereby making purchases affordable and easy to budget. Payments are automatically drafted from the consumer’s designated bank account via Automated Clearing House (”ACH”) on the modifiable schedule set by the consumer at the time of purchase. A flat 1.9% transaction fee is charged to the consumer and all payments are held in an account in trust at HSBC Bank and transferred to the merchant once full payment has been made. Like traditional layaway programs of the past, delivery of the product or service occurs once payment is complete. Payment processing and supporting services are handled by eLayaway(R) while merchants provide order fulfillment.

How eLayaway Works for Merchants

For many online merchants, eLayaway(R) offers an opportunity to provide layaway to their customers as a means to expand market share while reducing the administrative requirements of traditional layaway. Merchants are now turning to payment alternatives such as eLayaway(R) in order to take advantage of opportunities that increase sales and profits. Today, approximately one-half of all consumers do not qualify for credit. eLayaway(R) provides an alternative payment method that allows these consumers to make the purchases they desire while enabling merchants to sell additional products on an immediate basis.

In addition to eLayaway.com, the Company also owns and operates eLayawaySPORTS.com, eLayawayTRAVEL.com and eLayawayHEALTH.com. eLayaway, Inc. was founded in 2005.

Florida Marlins Outfielder Chris Coghlan Injures His Knee

Reported by: Anza crwenewswire Mideast correspondent

Chris Coghlan, Florida Marlin’s outfielder, injured his knee while delivering a shaving cream pie to the face of his team mate, Wes Helms, during a celebration following the pinch-hitter’s bases-loaded single in the 11th inning of a 5-4 win over Atlanta on Sunday. The injury, caused by over-excitement, was revealed by an MRI this past Monday. It is expected that the dominating NL Rookie of the year would be out of action for two to three weeks if surgery on the MCL is not required. He will be on the disabled list for six to eight weeks if an operation is needed.

“It happened as I was going to pie Wes (Helms) in the face and when I jumped, I landed on my knee wrong,” Coghlan reported. “That’s how I hurt it.”

He also added, “Hopefully through this experience - obviously Kendry Morales’ (injury) was a little bit more serious than mine - hopefully players around the league will realize that even though we’re all excited, we just have to be a little bit more cautious, a little bit safer, when we celebrate. It was one of those freak things that happens.”

Helms said that the injury was also related to the recent incident in which Coghlan’s knee was hit by a pitch. Helms also told the press, “Any time you go after a guy like that and chase him down, it’s very dangerous. It really is. Anybody can get stepped on. You can turn an ankle. This year, with Morales and now Coghlan, it has maybe opened up not just to us, but to the whole league that, ‘Hey on these celebrations we need to be careful.’”

Mid East correspondent for crwenewswire.com

Nelson Mandela plans to celebrate his 92nd birthday with his family, a week after the FIFA World cup. Nelson had a wish to see the World Cup in his country and his dream came true this year.

Nelson is a peace symbol for the world. He spent all his life in striving for peace, solidarity, and humanity. He knew that World Cup would play a role to arouse the patriotism, as well as to unite the people. People in charge of organizing his birthday felt the strong dream of Nelson for this event in his country. The World Cup has made people of different colors, races, and religions come togehter under a common national identity.

“People of different races, color or creed came together under a singular national identity,” said the committee which bridges government and parliament.

Black South Africans were thought to not have enough skills to lead their country. They proved themselves efficient in doing this by holding World Cup 2010.

Nelson is in berevement due to the death of his granddaughter in an unfortunate car accident. Still Mandela somehow managed some time to visit the tournament on July 11th.

A man in a coat, gloves, and overcoat with a perfect look, Nelson was sitting with his wife, and waved to the team for their victory while sitting in an open vehicle.

The United Nations decided to celebrate “Nelson Mandela International Day” every year on the birthdate of Mandela to appreciate his struggle for peace and freedom.

For his birthday, not only the high class people will be invited, but also children from his childhood village. The birthday party will be celebrated a week after the World Cup. It is his 92nd birthday. Film actor Morgan Freeman, who acted as Mandela in” Invictus” will be welcoming the guests.

Silence in Netherlands: FIFA took away the smiles

Friday, July 16th, 2010

By Hassan MohammadZaman
Mid East correspondent for crwenewswire.com

The World Cup final on Sunday has put a stain on the reputation of Dutch team. Spectators had high expectations regarding the team, but these were not met. The team has faced embarrassment in Johannesburg, as well as all over the world due to the media reporting good and bad news. On Sunday the Dutch and Spaniards were being discussed on many news channels.

Mid fielder, Mark van Bommel and some other team mates have criticized Howard Webb for being bias in decisions. Dirk Kuyt said “I know you can’t hold responsible others, but the ref was more positive to Spain.”

The Netherlands have been unlucky and missed the trophies of all the FIFA tournaments in the last 80 years. The team is now famous among FIFA fans as the best team that never wins. Hopes were high this time to win the trophy, but luck did not work once again. The Dutch were disappointed and criticized the team.

“In 1974 we were the best. In 1978 we were better. In 2010 we were just not good enough,” said Monday’s Daily Telegraaf.
Dutch fans were very excited in the Johannesburg. The crowd kept cheering the team during the whole match, but unfortunately all these supporters returned home with sad faces.

NRC newspaper headlined: “And now the hangover”

Lack of attacking play and the many fouls in the game reflects that it is time for some reflection. Despite of disappointment, the Netherlands team should not forget that their day might come.
